Born Dina Habib in Cairo to a Coptic Christian family. Her father was a captain in the Egyptian Army and her mother had attended the American University in Cairo. In Dallas her parents ran a convenience store. She arrived in the US as a child knowing no English, and her family insisted she be raised with Egyptian culture and language.
