Ahmed Zewail was an Egyptian American chemist, Caltech professor, and Nobel laureate known as a founder of femtochemistry. His ultrafast laser work made it possible to observe chemical reactions at femtosecond timescales, earning him the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and a lasting place in modern science.
