A kilometre of Fatimid-to-Ottoman monuments through Islamic Cairo

Al-Muizz Street runs about a kilometre between the Bab al-Futuh and Bab Zuweila gates of Fatimid Cairo, lined with some 29 monuments spanning the 10th to 19th centuries, from mosques and madrasas to sabils and merchant houses. It lies inside Historic Cairo, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, and Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities describes the street as the largest open-air museum of Islamic monuments in the world.
