About
The current Cairo Opera House opened on 10 October 1988 on Gezira Island in Zamalek, built with funding from Japan after President Hosni Mubarak's 1983 visit there. It replaced the Khedivial Opera House, which burned down in 1971, and today houses the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Opera Ballet Company and the Cairo Opera Company across seven performance spaces.
