The Great Pyramid of Giza was built around 2600 BC as the tomb of the Fourth Dynasty pharaoh Khufu, using an estimated 2.3 million blocks of stone. It stood as the tallest human-made structure in the world for more than 3,700 years and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to survive largely intact. It stands alongside the smaller pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure on the Giza plateau at the edge of Cairo's Western Desert.
