About
Khan el-Khalili was built in 1382 by Emir Jaharkas al-Khalili as a caravanserai for merchants in the heart of Fatimid Cairo, and expanded over the following centuries into the city's main bazaar district. Its alleys hold goldsmiths, copperware and spice stalls alongside El Fishawy, a coffeehouse operating since 1797.
