El Fishawy has operated inside the Khan el-Khalili bazaar since 1797, run across generations by descendants of its founder. Open around the clock, its mirrored walls and narrow alley seating made it a regular haunt of Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz and generations of Cairo writers and intellectuals.
