Koshary El Tahrir sits on Youssef El Gendy Street in Bab El Louq, a few blocks from Tahrir Square. It stayed open through the January 2011 demonstrations, feeding large numbers of protesters and becoming a small icon of the uprising. The menu is almost entirely koshary, Egypt's rice-lentil-pasta staple, with rice pudding as the only dessert.
