About
Opened in 1989 inside the Khan el-Khalili bazaar and run by the Oberoi group, this café was originally called Khan el Khalili and took the novelist's name after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988. It sits in the quarter of Old Cairo that Mahfouz grew up in and wrote about, serving juices, coffee and Egyptian snacks, with a restaurant behind it in the evenings.
