The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum has stood on Tahrir Square since 1902, in a building designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. It holds one of the world's largest collections of ancient Egyptian antiquities, more than 170,000 items covering roughly 5,000 years of history. Its Tutankhamun holdings were transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza when that museum opened in November 2025.
