After City School in Zamalek Closed, Health Ministry Announces First Egyptian Student Infected with Coronavirus

Dr. Khaled Megahed, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, revealed the first case of an Egyptian student infected with coronavirus, noting that one of the students at the school placed under isolation Thursday evening had tested positive for the virus.
Megahed said that, after one of the students at City International School in Zamalek was examined, it was confirmed that he had coronavirus, which had been transmitted to him by his father, who had come into contact with an infected foreign national.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education had announced that, as part of the ministry’s plan to prevent the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health and Population had traced some relatives of a person who had come into contact with foreign visitors. Accordingly, a “precautionary decision” was made to close City International School in Zamalek, Cairo, and impose “self-isolation” on its students, teachers, and school administration.
The ministry added, according to a press statement issued Thursday evening, that this would last for ١٤ days as a preventive measure, because one parent had come into contact with one of the infected foreign nationals.
The two ministries are monitoring the situation in all schools across the Republic around the clock. They reassured parents that these measures are preventive and intended for protection, and urged them not to rely on any information not officially issued by the two ministries.
