Antiquities Minister Inspects Karnak Rams Ahead of Their Placement in Tahrir Square

Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, inspected this Monday afternoon the restoration work on the four rams, which were recently moved from behind the first pylon in the first courtyard of Karnak Temple and placed for restoration in the Egyptian Museum garden, ahead of their imminent transfer to their designated locations to adorn Tahrir Square in central Cairo beside the obelisk of King Ramses II, which has been restored and erected in the square. He was accompanied during the tour by Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Restoration work is proceeding rapidly at the hands of a team of restorers from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, in preparation for the imminent opening of the Tahrir Square development project. The project was initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and Cairo Governorate, as part of the state’s plan to showcase Egypt’s unique civilization to the world, with a new display concept and designs to beautify the square and present it in its finest form, making it a new attraction among Cairo’s archaeological and tourist sites.
