In Response to the Prime Minister’s Directives.. Security Company Takes Over Development of Tahrir Square, While Cairo Handles Maintenance and Management

Following yesterday’s instructions from Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, to quickly contract a security company to take over the development works at Tahrir Square, Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Local Development, confirmed that a security company had already begun work at the site today.

The minister confirmed that any violation by citizens would be dealt with firmly to preserve the development work completed at the square, which now rivals the world’s most famous squares.

The minister noted that the square has surveillance cameras, whose footage will be reviewed in the event of theft, damage to the landscaping, or any violation involving the obelisk and the surrounding fountain, as well as the rams that will be installed. Deterrent legal measures will then be taken against those responsible for such violations.

For his part, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly urged citizens to preserve the development work completed at the square, noting that Cairo Governorate would handle maintenance and management of the square so that it would continue to appear at its finest. This is also the responsibility of every citizen, as Tahrir Square represents a distinguished civilizational gateway for Egypt and Egyptians.
