Antiquities Ministry Completes Installation of Two Karnak Rams in Tahrir Square

The Cabinet announced moments ago the successful transfer of the four rams to Tahrir Square in central Cairo, following the completion of their restoration, which continued over the past few months.

Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that installation of two of the four rams on their designated bases had now been completed, while work was continuing to install the other two rams in their designated locations, beside the obelisk of King Ramses II, which had been restored and erected in the square over the past months.

He added that all the rams would be enclosed in wooden crates until the opening of the Tahrir Square development project, funded by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities in coordination with Cairo Governorate and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, as part of the state’s plan to showcase Egypt’s unique civilization to the world, with a new display concept and designs to beautify the square and present it in its finest form, making it a new attraction among Cairo’s archaeological and tourist sites.

The Cabinet stressed that the transfer was carried out by Arab Contractors under the technical and archaeological supervision of restorers from the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Council’s Secretary-General.
