This mosque and Sufi shrine in the Anfoushi quarter marks the burial place of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi, a scholar born in Andalusia in 1219 who settled in Alexandria and died there in 1286; he is regarded as one of Egypt's four master saints. The current structure, in Neo-Mamluk style with white marble, mosaics and twin minarets rising 73 metres, was rebuilt in the 1940s by Italian architect Mario Rossi, replacing earlier versions from 1307 and 1477.
