Opened in the Smouha area in the 1950s, Alexandria Zoo spans about 24 acres and is Egypt's second-largest zoo after Giza's. It includes a reptile house with native species such as the Egyptian cobra and the critically endangered Egyptian tortoise, plus a small on-site taxidermy museum.
