About
Established in 1903 in a neo-Mamluk building at Bab al-Khalq, the museum holds more than 100,000 objects, with about 4,500 on display, including Qur'ans with silver-ink calligraphy, Mamluk metalwork, and ceramics from across the Islamic world. A 2014 car bomb aimed at the police headquarters next door damaged the building; an internationally funded restoration reopened it in 2017.
