The museum preserves dozens of royal carriages used by Egypt's rulers from Khedive Ismail to King Farouk, including the ornate Alay Carriage given by Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie for the 1869 opening of the Suez Canal. Converted from the royal stables department after the 1952 revolution, the building has been renovated repeatedly, most recently reopening in 2021.
