Egyptian Geological Museum

About
The museum grew out of the Egyptian Geological Survey, founded in 1896, and opened to the public on 1 December 1904. Its original downtown Cairo building, designed by Marcel Dourgnon (architect of the Egyptian Museum), was demolished in 1982 for the Cairo Metro, and the collection relocated to its present site. It holds rocks, ores, minerals and fossils including vertebrate remains from the Fayoum desert and a collection of meteorites found in Egypt.
