About
Artist Fouad (George) Abdel-Malek built Egypt's wax museum in 1934, inspired by Madame Tussauds but focused on Egyptian history rather than celebrities. After moves through downtown Cairo, it settled at its current Ain Helwan site, officially opening there on 6 August 1950. It displays wax figures and historical scenes spanning the Pharaonic, Greco-Roman and Islamic periods, and reopened to the public after a long closure for renovation.
